Everyone on here 'Sounds just like Slint' . Give it a break. It's like if you heard June of 44 or Rodan first, you'd be over on Spiderland ragging on it. Slint was not the first band to have a clean guitar sound and spoken word over it. They didn't invent it, as there were plenty of bands doing it at the same time. Spiderland just happened to be one of the first, to make it out on a big release. Deservedly so. I love all of it for the record. It's called Louisville. At the time one of the best hotbeds of music for all time. So yeah, bands sound the same, sometimes.

I dunno about this. I like the sound a lot... but it sounds like they're copying Slint, instead of just being influenced by them.

One of those bands that always struck me as completely derivative. Just give me Slint and be done with it. But I guess it was time for me then to step aside and let the younger kids experience that sense that their music, their stance was unique, just like I had felt. And the cycle continues. New music, new slang, new looks. A side effect of consumer culture. We always need new products and features.

I get my kicks for you was one of the first songs I ever taught myself how to play. It was the end of 7th grade, i just turned 13, and just got a guitar for my birthday. The few friends i had weren't into music, but I found a college station by accident scanning the regular radio in my bedroom one night and accidentally heard Rodan's 'everyday world of bodies' This altered a path that changed my life! I sat for the following years with cassettes recording everything from the shows on the radio. One of the tapes I had, featured 'I get my kicks for you.' I didn't know how to play guitar well, but by 95, I had been trying for over a year. I didn't know what they were called, but I could find notes, and note by note, I figured it out!

HAVE A SAFE TRIP, DEAR
In the kitchen, in a chair
Above the vent where the heat is
The man sits beside her
She's baking their daily bread
And living through each step with direction
He watches her with admiration
Unable to make sense of her magic
The magician sets the oven at 350 degrees
And lets her work do the trick
He grinds the beans for their coffee
And they move to a different space
Where they wait
Gone to a different room

In the big room
Roosting
The black book
Writing there, right in there
The pages
Hands are cut
Nails worn down
I'm trying
Waiting there, waiting there
Waiting there, waiting there, waiting there, waiting there

It's been so long, it's been so long

The man lies down beside her
She strikes a flame to kill the absolute darkness
